Jack Carle

Jack has a genetic condition that affects physical development and sometimes cognitive development (Noonan syndrome).

"Knowing that there are people who give… is vital. Your gesture truly changes lives, quite literally." — Marie-Pierre, Jack’s mother

Illness has no place in a child’s life.

An unexpected pregnancy, marked by hardship

Marie-Pierre and André-Philippe waited a long time before finally being able to hold their child in their arms. After six years of infertility and multiple medical procedures, they were overjoyed to learn they were expecting a baby. Then, at 22 weeks of pregnancy, another surprise awaited them: Marie-Pierre was carrying not one, but two little boys.

Their happiness was short-lived. Just weeks later, a series of medical tests revealed abnormalities. Marie-Pierre’s abdomen was excessively swollen, indicating too much amniotic fluid often associated with Down syndrome. Further testing brought another diagnosis: both twins had Noonan syndrome. Then came yet another devastating blow—twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. Jack was receiving all the nutrients and blood from his brother, Théo, whose condition was rapidly deteriorating. Both babies’ lives were in danger.

Heartbreakingly, despite all their hopes and dreams for their twins, only Jack’s life could be saved. One month later, at just 27 weeks of pregnancy, Jack was born weighing barely two pounds. Fragile and tiny, he was immediately placed in an incubator and hospitalized in neonatal intensive care. His mother was only able to hold him in her arms after three long months.

A daily fight for life

The challenges were only beginning. At two months old, a severe heart defect required surgery. A post-operative complication caused a stroke, affecting his fine motor skills and likely his vision. Still, Jack fought with incredible strength. After four months in intensive care, he was finally able to go home.

Today, Jack is a curious and radiant child. He smiles, moves, and explores. Although he is still tube-fed for 70% of his nutrition and lives with multiple respiratory conditions requiring daily medication, he continues to defy expectations. His paralysis may cause him to limp, but he keeps moving forward.

Despite grieving the loss of Théo, Jack’s parents find joy in every small milestone. Each step forward is celebrated with love and gratitude. Thanks to specialized care tailored to his needs, Jack continues to grow and develop, and his parents can imagine a future where he may one day walk independently, feed himself, and live life to the fullest. Knowing their son has access to the best possible care brings them reassurance and hope for a brighter future.

Thanks to your generosity, there are beautiful things on the horizon for children like Jack.
