For the health of our little sunshines Centre-du-Québec

March 31, 2026

This year, essential projects will be funded in Centre-du-Québec to improve the care journey for children in the region.

Enfant Soleil helps more than 100 healthcare facilities across the province and provides invaluable support to the four major pediatric centres, which give specialized and sub-specialized care to any child who needs it.

Essential support for the entire pediatric ecosystem

Scale with carrying case

  • Postnatal home visits by nurses reduce families’ need to travel and avoid certain hospitalizations.
  • Equipped with this mobile scale, the hospital’s postnatal support team can visit newborns and their mothers, facilitating access to care while gently, safely and accurately weighing the babies.

Bilirubinometer

  • Jaundice affects 60% of newborns. Jointly funded by Enfant Soleil and Santé Québec*, this device will be used during postnatal home visits to detect jaundice in babies by quickly, gently and safely measuring the level of bilirubin in their blood.

*2025–2026 funding made possible through an agreement initiated with the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux.

A look back at a project carried out thanks to Enfant Soleil’s support

Inaugurated just this March, the pediatric unit at Hôtel-Dieu d’Arthabaska underwent work to improve children’s experience and comfort during hospital stays. This major project received a joint Enfant Soleil-Santé Québec* contribution of more than $555,000, and involved expanding the isolation room and setting up a treatment room and a nurses’ station.

This new unit offers:

  • an adapted, pleasant and soothing atmosphere for young patients;
  • better access to pediatric outpatient services in the territory, reducing the length of hospitalizations;
  • walk-in services;
  • access to a local service for families who will no longer have to travel to another region to receive specialized care.

Helping grown-ups improve young lives

“These improvements offer attractive, safe, ergonomic, high-tech and very human care environments for children and their families, as well as for staff. They optimize how we organize our work, support the well-being of our teams and create a positive experience for everyone.”

Élixe Eugster, Enfant Soleil for Centre-du-Québec

Élixe and his family are brilliant ambassadors who courageously share their story and reality.

At Élixe’s birth, the moment Chloé had dreamed of turned into a nightmare when her baby, despite being born without any complications, began regurgitating abnormally and having difficulty breathing. It was soon discovered that there was a problem with his esophagus. Élixe was urgently transferred to the CHU de Sherbrooke to be operated on the next day, while Chloé and Mathieu, both of whom were diagnosed with COVID-19, were left in anguish at not being able to go with their newborn. Fortunately, the surgery corrected the problem and after 10 days in the hospital, being tube-fed, Élixe was finally able to go home to his family. Today, he is growing up healthy, with only a small scar left from this difficult time. He has everything he needs to thrive, happy to tag along with his dad, brother and sister when they go out to the barn.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the various hospital foundations for their invaluable collaboration. As essential allies of Enfant Soleil, they brighten the lives of families affected by illness.
