This year, essential projects will be funded in Bas-Saint-Laurent to improve the care journey and overall health of children in the region.
Enfant Soleil helps more than 100 healthcare facilities across the province and provides invaluable support to the four major pediatric centres, which give specialized and sub-specialized care to any child who needs it.

1 vital signs monitor
- Nurses will benefit from a device that gives a quick and accurate reading of a newborn’s vital signs during in-home postnatal follow-up visits, for a complete and safe assessment of the baby’s state of health.
Optimization of the Unité de réadaptation comportementale intensive (URCI)
- The intensive behavioural rehabilitation unit (URCI) welcomes young people ages 6 to 17 living with an intellectual disability, a physical disability or autism spectrum disorder in a safe and adapted rehabilitation environment. Jointly funded by Enfant Soleil and Santé Québec*, this project involves setting up a calming room to enrich the sensory approaches used, reduce sound stimuli for hypersensitive users and better support young people prone to disorganized thinking, to improve the quality and safety of their stay.

Music boxes for workshops
- Espace Transition Montréal is expanding its activities to Rimouski to support young people ages 8 to 18 living with a mental disorder. Held in small groups, its music creation workshops will aid with confidence building and social reintegration through the arts. This activity encourages emotional expression, fosters positive social interactions and gives young people an opportunity to discover the world of music in a safe, supportive environment.
- These music boxes are financed by the Sport and Sustainable Health Fund, which aims to promote and support healthy lifestyle habits in children through sport, physical activity and healthy eating, as well as cultivating emotional and mental well-being.

A look back at a project carried out thanks to Enfant Soleil’s support
Thanks to joint funding from Enfant Soleil and Santé Québec* totalling $8,068, new equipment has been added to the sensory and stimulation rooms at the Centre multiservices in Matane and in Rimouski to enrich the therapeutic setting.
The teams now have additional tools they can use in their assessments and interventions, adapted to the needs of children living with an intellectual disability or autism spectrum disorder. This equipment will help reassure the children, motivate them and encourage their involvement in the rehabilitation process.

Christopher Roy, Enfant Soleil for Bas-Saint-Laurent
Christopher and his family are brilliant ambassadors who courageously share their story and reality.
In June 2023, Christopher, who had always been a very healthy young boy, received a devastating diagnosis: leukemia. He was immediately transferred to the Centre mère-enfant Soleil at the CHU de Québec to begin intensive chemotherapy treatments, followed by a bone marrow transplant in Montréal, which kept him hospitalized until March 2024. After many months in the hospital, bedridden and dealing with the side effects of his treatments, Christopher was finally able to return to a more normal life. Even though he had to make up for lost time at school, he was happy to be back and to be on the hockey team again. Resilient and mature for his age, he reminds us of the importance of living in the present and savouring life’s small daily joys.
