Hôpital de Sept-Îles
A hospital visit can be scary for children and their families, no matter if it is for something minor or more serious. When the care environment is designed for their size, the experience is softer and more reassuring. Inviting spaces help calm fear and promote healing.
This major project is receiving $243,000 in funding over two years from Enfant Soleil and Santé Québec*. The renovation of the pediatric department will make the main hallway warmer and brighter to create a reassuring atmosphere from the moment families arrive. It will also provide a playful and comforting space for the 400 to 600 children who visit each year, helping to keep their spirits up in difficult times while stimulating their creativity. Finally, the modernization of the nurses’ station will give the healthcare personnel all the equipment they need.

Portable multiparameter physiology monitor
- The hospital’s mother-and-child centre will receive a portable physiology monitor jointly funded by Enfant Soleil and Santé Québec*. In addition to continuously monitoring the vital signs of newborns, this device helps the teams take quick action when resuscitation is needed. In critical moments when every second counts, it gives babies a precious chance to begin their recovery.

Examination table
- The addition of an examination table in the pediatric outpatient clinic will help with accurate assessments and management adapted to children with complex health issues. Families will be able to receive quality care closer to home, which will reduce hospitalizations and the need for transfers to a major hospital.
A look back at a project carried out thanks to Enfant Soleil’s support
For a young person staying at a rehabilitation centre for adjustment difficulties, the days can be filled with strong emotions to manage and challenges to overcome. Having a space in which they can move around, rest, breathe or simply play is essential to regain a certain balance. Improvements to the entertainment room at the Centre de réadaptation pour les jeunes en difficulté d’adaptation in Baie-Comeau, made possible thanks to $5,470 in funding jointly donated by Enfant Soleil and Santé Québec*, have created a safe space and given a sense of normalcy to children and adolescents ages 5 to 18 who are struggling to adjust.
Offering a variety of materials, such as sensory items, exercise mats, musical instruments and multipurpose furniture, the children can now do yoga, work out, make music, play karaoke or watch a movie. This soothing environment helps them manage their stress and anger, supports their rehabilitation goals and provides a caring environment in which to express themselves, refocus and have a positive experience, all vital to their progress and well-being.

Daphnée Tremblay, Enfant Soleil for Côte-Nord
Daphnée and her family are brilliant ambassadors who courageously share their story and reality.
Daphnée’s birth was a very distressing experience. She was not breathing and had to be resuscitated by the medical team at Hôpital de Sept-Îles. Her mother Mylène soon noticed a malformation of her daughter’s left arm and hand. This condition, known as severe symbrachydactyly, causes Daphnée constant pain as well as hypersensitivity to temperature changes. Everyday actions like playing, eating and moving require tremendous effort. Specialists suspect a rare syndrome, which adds more uncertainty to her condition. At every consultation, Daphnée’s parents hope for solutions that will ease her suffering and allow her to grow up without pain. Despite the challenges she faces, Daphnée’s resilience and curiosity fill her parents with admiration and pride.
